Who Is Brer Anancy?
Brer Anancy is the trickster spider god who loves to tell tales, and legend says he owns all the stories in the world. Born of Ghana's Ashanti tradition, he has traveled the world giving a voice to the voiceless. In Jamaica he became the clever, comic, sometimes sinister hero of the island's folk stories.
"Anancy shows in his stories the survival tactics employed by the weak in society in order to combat the strong."— The Hon. Louise Bennett-Coverley, OJ
Since 2012, the Brer Anancy series has brought these tales to a new generation, with translations into other languages, so children everywhere see Caribbean heritage celebrated on the page.
